Letter from Pastor David | March 12
Good afternoon friends. I hope you are well and enjoying a good Thursday wherever you are. I need to share important information with you about our church and what we are doing in the very near future.
As you are well aware, the COVID-19 Coronavirus is expanding its reach in our nation. In fact, it is expanding its reach ito our region. One of the most important things we can do to help slow its growth is to practice social distancing.
We now know that persons who are affected with COVID-19 are contagious for several days prior to being symptomatic. To assist in the prevention of its spread in our community, I recommended to our elders and staff that we cease all activities in our church for the next week.
keep reading this letter...
We will not be open for ANY event or program for one week. This includes all worship gatherings, Wednesday night activities, our preschool, language congregations, home school groups, Upward basketball, and all renters. We will meet again next Thursday to see what developments have occurred that might warrant gathering together for worship on March 22. An email will be forthcoming with a decision about activities next Thursday.
Please understand, my greatest concern is for our seniors and those with compromised immune systems.
Friends, I love to gather for worship. I believe being together as the community of faith is simply important. But, I also believe we need to be good neighbors and love our neighbors well. And, for me, that means we need to maintain some distance from one another for what (I hope) is a brief season.
Our website is up. There will be a message posted online. You can find it here: I will also be sharing a live Facebook gathering on Sunday morning at 10 am.
With this decision we have also decided to:
Delay our baptism that was scheduled for the March 29.
Delay our fundraiser that was scheduled, also, for the March 29.
Delay purchasing tickets for our Guatemala mission trip.
Most of us have not experienced anything quite like the season we are in. In fact, some of you reading this might think I am overreacting and others might think that this is not enough. I get it. Some of you have visited Costco in the last 24 hours and you have seen and felt the panic in that store.
As followers of Christ, we are not called to panic, we are called to love. We are called to serve. We are reminded of God’s presence in the valleys and on the mountain top. This season is a reminder that we can be God’s light in a troubling time. Let me challenge and encourage you to shine; to shine for Jesus; to check in on your neighbors. And, to love your neighbors.
Please respond to this email if you have a need that we might be able to assist you.
I will close with two reminders from God’s Word:
2 Timothy 1:7-8 (GW)
God didn’t give us a cowardly spirit but a spirit of power, love, and good judgment.
1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Blessings and peace to you,
